Restored Hope

I have to admit I am one who wavers on the fence sometimes over the issue of will God bless America with His favor again or is He done with us. But in recent months I have been seeing my hope for a restoration of His blessing on our nation hugely restored.  How did it happen? As I had to put this website together!

When my boss, Dave Butts felt compelled of the Lord to lead the charge to raise up prayer  during the 40 days prior to the elections, that changed my life. As anyone knows when a boss gets a sense of urgency about something, employees hop to! Since I oversee our websites, we started putting this one together. I was not ready for what I would find.

I am truly amazed at how many people and organizations are at the same time being called to do something similar. That says this is a God thing. And what some of them are doing is truly wonderful. I just was pointed to the most unique and “God miracle” prayer event and it has blown me away.

For 40 days prior to the elections, a young YWAMer (Youth with a Mission) named Jason Hershey has gotten a permit to put a tent on the White House property (in the Ellipsis) and have 40 days of 24-7 worship. That means next to the White House, Jesus Christ will be praised, magnified, and exalted for 40 days and nights from Sept. 28 – Nov. 6. Anyone can come to the tent and participate. You can check out a video about this event at www.davidstentdc.org. Only God could orchestrate this.

What does it mean that all this prayer stuff is coming together? God is up to something. When God sets His people praying you know He is up to something! That restores my hope that America is in for a fresh outpouring or blessing from God. What it looks like, I don’t know. But I am hopeful.

Be hopeful. Encourage your church and friends to participate in praying for the elections and our nation.

I would like to offer some suggestions for corporate prayer. Daniel's Prayer  9:4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed:        "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, 5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. 6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.  7 "Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame—the men of Judah and people of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you. 8 O LORD, we and our kings, our princes and our fathers are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. 9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him; 10 we have not obeyed the LORD our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets. 11 All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.        "Therefore the curses and sworn judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you. 12 You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem. 13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. 14 The LORD did not hesitate to bring the disaster upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him.  15 "Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong. 16 O Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our fathers have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us.  17 "Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. 19 O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name." Prayer for America O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. We have turned away from the piety of our founding fathers. We have become lax in our devotion to your word and careless in our obedience. In our carelessness we have allowed wicked men to come in and subvert our holy foundations. They have turned us away from our devotion to you and eroded our freedoms. We, your blood washed servants, have allowed evils such as abortion and homosexuality to be practiced openly and shamelessly. Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame because of our unfaithfulness to you. O LORD, we and our government officials are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him; we have not obeyed the LORD our God or kept the laws he gave us through his word and taught by his holy ministers. All America has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you. Therefore, O Holy LORD, sin and lasciviousness are all around us; you have allowed our liberty and safety and prosperity to slip away from us and have placed reckless and self-serving rulers over us who have turned groups of Americans against others in envy. Just as it is written in your holy word, you have allowed this disaster to come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. The LORD did not hesitate to bring the disaster upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him. Now, O Lord our God, who has redeemed your saints from the rule of sin and death by the shedding of your own blood and victorious resurrection, we have sinned, we have done wrong. O Lord, in keeping with all your mercy and righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from America on which you have shed your grace. Our sins and the iniquities of our fathers have caused us to become like one of the nations that does not heed the living God. Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servants. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your suffering people. Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the brokenness of those who bear your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because the foundation of our nation and your people bear your Name. God is waiting to hear His people pray. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. - 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) Who My people who are called by My name – People who have appropriated the atoning grace of the creator God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. What we must do Will humble themselves – Give up our pride and control. Be willing to obey God's commands and submit to His will. Pray and seek my face – Ask God to reveal His presence, will and goodness and seek fellowship with Almighty God. Turn from their wicked ways – Forsake our sinful ways. Ask God to transform our lives according to His will. Ask God to forgive us and cleanse us individually and corporately. What God will do Hear from heaven, Forgive our sins and Heal our land This is an offer made to people who are called by God's name. If we will take Him at His word, all of America will benefit, and because of America's influence in the world, the whole world will be blessed. Let's get started!

At least two months ago, it was put on my heart to begin reading on and praying about the Bible story of Abraham, God, and Sodom & Gomorrah and how Abraham asked God that if there were ten righteous would He spare His judgment. Perhaps it is time to pay attention to this story and the one that is going on in our nation today.
