Praying for Our Nation (Approx 60-90 minutes)
Worship- Focusing on Who is important! Pick songs about who Christ is, not songs about the Christian walk or prayer. Exalt Jesus Christ with the worship.
Possible Prayer Time Lead-in: Show the 2 minute video of Dave Butts calling believers to prayer (in the Media section of this website). In it, he lays out the importance of the three prayer themes you will follow in your prayer time.
Section 1:
The condition of the nation will reflect the condition of the Church. That means the starting places is to pray for:
Revival - what are we praying toward – awakening - Presence
2 Chron. 7:14 - humble themselves and pray, turn from wickedness, seek God’s face
A. Humble ourselves. Get on our knees. Confess our need for God - in Church and nation.
B. Turn – repentance. Call out the sins of the Church. Have public prayers of repentance.
C. Seek God’s face. Worship Him - long for His Presence
Section 2:
Raise up a standard of righteousness - Prov. 14:34
Pray prayers that make a commitment to the Word of God.
Pray in small groups - use Psalm 119 as a resource for your prayers.
Section 3:
The elections - Isaiah 48:17
Did you know you can pray about politics without being partisan? Instruct people not to pray for a specific candidate. Just seek God’s purposes for our nation.
Pray in smaller groups
- pray for our leaders- wisdom, Godly direction
- pray for the selection of our leaders- thank God for that ability
- stand against hatred and divisiveness
- ask God for wisdom and direction- what is best
It is often a good thing to break up the time between sections with worship in between.
